“The rain was never ending. The sadness in my heart would light and glow in the dark. Oh this will never change. Time just wears a prettier face. I’m book smart, street stupid.” (”Book Smart, Street Stupid”)
“I put my head back. Where it belongs up there in the clouds. I’m spreading love like a terrorist now.” (”Day One”)
Luck made me discover the music of Sarah Slean. No, in fact, I think I had a rendez-vous with her that day.
It was a day in Fall 2003 and I had to go work in a small art gallery where I was welcoming visitors. It was a rainy day and I knew that I would be all alone. I also knew that I would have all the time for my sad thoughts!
I decided to go to the public library of my town before going to work, so I could borrow a cd to listen in the gallery. I wanted something new. I was, between two other discs, the words “Night Bugs“. The dark cover, still highlighted by the photograph in the middle, the symbolic title: everything seemed to fit with my feelings!
I decided to take that album and to give a chance to that still unknown singer. It was wonderful, I can almost say perfect!
I brought the album back at home and I listened to it many times. I promised myself that I would go to the music store to buy it. Then, I returned the borrowed album at the library and I forgot it.
Days went by and I felt “blue” again, like on that rainy day. I remembered the album and, this time, I went to buy it. It’s really at that moment that I had the chance to discover again the songs of Sarah Slean. I realized that they were a good remedy against sadness, but that they also became a daily vitamin for me!
When Day One was released, I ran at my music store to bought my copy of it. I was happy with it: it was good, very good! I also bought Orphan Music, the live album. Now, I have to find Blue Parade and the two short albums (Universe and Sarah Slean EP): please forgive me for not having them already!
Of course, I can’t forget The Baroness, that will be release shortly, in March 2008. I still have to wait a few days, but I’m sure I won’t be disappointed!
