“When Michelle plays, all you hear is music, and it all makes sense and all the rest of the world fade away.“
Boston based singer/songwriter Michelle Lewis is an artist to watch for in the coming years, her EP, BROKEN would remind you some of those artists with a guitar, but trying to get a name or two in my head, the words can’t get my mouth. So, some says she recalls Martina Sorbara’s solo work, Ani DiFranco or it is Shawn Colvin’s guitar, maybe Jewel studying the innocence or maybe Sarah McLachlan’s sweet melancholy, but enough of these recycled cliché. Thought even if her sound seems familiar, she’s too refined to call folk and too personal to call pop, her music surprises listeners who think they know what to expect from a singer/songwriter, and those who never expected to like one.
If you hear Michelle’s music before you meet her, you might be surprised at her exuberance. Her songs, deeply emotionals and melodics throw you against a wall. She has an unique and warm textured voice, completely authentic: exuberant but not extravagant, just armed with a guitar and some pleasant acoustic arrangements, you realize that when she performs she is living the life to which her songs aspire. Her songs are testament to the nobility, beauty and grace of the feminine spirit, without making an enemy of the masculine.
World be warned, as Michelle Lewis’ voice continues to mature, she will undoubtedly continue to lead listeners into more and more fertile territory within the feminine imagination, her blooming being rich with material waiting to be turned into song, and shared with everyone. The best thing we could wish for Michelle Lewis is to stay as an independent artist and not looking for a commercial success: see what’s happen with Jewel… Innocence has gone!
